Virtual
I/O
Another
key component of reconfigurability is the virtual input/output
system, or Virtual I/O. The Virtual I/O system is a software
interface that handles all I/O between the simulation
host computer and the cockpit hardware. Each aircraft
type has its own unique configuration file which defines
the instruments contained in that particular aircraft.
Switching between aircraft types is accomplished by simply
loading the appropriate configuration file.
The
Virtual I/O is also a great test tool. It allows the
user to test the cockpit hardware without having the
simulation software running. It also allows for testing
the simulation software without having the cockpit hardware
connected. Any parameter handled by the Virtual I/O can
be set to a user-defined value. Strip charts showing
up to 6 different parameters can be display on the screen
at one time for monitoring parameter values.
