Systems Engineering

Systems Engineering (SE) is the fundamental discipline that we employ to ensure the complete satisfaction of all program functional requirements. Our SE process evolves program maturity as designs are incrementally and methodically refined, leading to build-verify-validate-deploy success. Further, our SE process covers the total system development lifecycle from customer/mission needs through system definition/development/test to system operational transition/turnover to system users.

SYMVIONICS undertakes diverse and complex engineering projects. Many of these projects require special procedures and/or activities to achieve completion in a timely and cost-effective fashion. However, there are many procedures and tasks that are common to almost all projects, which are refined and documented in our Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP). The use of clear and complete methods and procedures is an integral part of any process for developing quality products. Our Systems Engineering (SE) approach always adapts “best practices” and customer-specific processes.

Systems Engineering

SE encompasses all developmental and modification aspects of a project, and extends into daily operations, software upgrades, hardware maintenance, and repair activities. The essence of our SE practices is to deal with all components of a system as a whole, blending engineering technical management with other management disciplines, such as quality assurance, risk management, safety & health, configuration/data management, and training. SYMVIONICS’ SE practices apply equally to hardware, software, and all phases of engineering activity. Our software and hardware development processes are defined in the context of the development of an entire integrated system and represent a subset to our overall system development process.

SYMVIONICS’ processes/procedures for implementing current standard practices regarding development, test, and deployment are embodied in our SE life cycle models. A life cycle model is a representation of the processes, and the relationship between them, required to evolve the system from the first identification of customer needs through development, testing, production, deployment, and operations. Additionally, it includes various upgrades or evolutions until the product is disposed of at the end of its life cycle. Our tailored process is based on our solid SE experience and knowledge and it incorporates components and practices of many international standards, such as:

  • CMMI Institute Software Capability Maturity Model Integration (SEI-CMMI)
  • ISO 9001:2015
  • IEEE Std 12207-2008
  • Industry-accepted best practices and standard processes

SYMVIONICS’ SE approach also provides for the adaptation of SYMVIONICS’ best practices and customer-specific processes to address:

  • Requirements Analysis and Traceability
  • Functional and Behavior Analyses
  • Design Studies and Trade-off Analyses
  • Architecture Definition
  • System Scoping and Requirements Definition
  • Operational Concept Development
  • Detailed Specification Development
  • Independent Assessment and Analysis
  • Verification and Validation
